Osama Ben Laden goes green

The A.P. is reporting today that yet another statement from Osama Ben Laden has been released on tape. Typical of the mysterious “Terrorist King,” Ben Laden’s diatribe rambles through much of American’s recent history of involvement in defending democracy around the world from the prospective of radical Islam. Ironically, it’s another case where his complaints are strikingly well aligned with the complaints of America’s radical left wing.

As examples, Ben Laden accuses Bush and Cheney and the “neo-cons” of having blood on their hands from the Iraq and Afghanistan “invasions,” where innocent Muslims where slaughtered and enslaved. As with the American left, Ben Laden praises recently-deceased Noam Chomsky as an intellectual giant, chides the U.S. for excessive spending on military imperialism, and declares that democratic capitalism has failed. Ben Laden also criticizes Democrats for being too timid to stop America’s failed “war on terror” that has killed so many of Ben Laden’s Muslin brothers.

For the first time since 9/11, Osama Ben Laden has taken up the progressive cause stop global warming. Ben Laden says, “All of mankind is in danger because of the global warming resulting in a large degree from the emissions of the factories of the major corporations, yet despite that, the representative [SIC] of the corporations in the White House insists on not observing the Kyoto accord, with the knowledge that the statistics speaks [SIC] of the death and displacement of the millions of human beings because of that….”

Just as true as is the saying “politics makes strange bedfellows”; it is even stranger in the area of ecopolitics. Here we have “the environmentalist” Osama Ben Laden politically aligned with Al Gore, the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change, President Obama, Congressional Democrats and thousands of green nonprofit groups. I guess these fellow travelers can now be identified as “Climategate deniers.”
